Linux Documentation Index
People complain about documentation. Mostly, because there isn't any. Well, I'm a firm believer in documentation and I believe in communication of knowledge to others. Of course, this doesn't help much with documentation. The Linux stuff on campus has never been overly documented and documentation for actually doing any development work has been non-existent when not un-findable. So this web page is dedicated to being an index of the documentation that does exist for Linux or PAMS related things that I've worked on.
Comments, suggestions, corrections (I can't spell), and even questions have lots of places they can go:
- Realm Linux Mailing Lists
- linux at help.ncsu.edu - Open a help/problem ticket for Linux related things on NCSU's campus.
- Bugzilla - File a bug report against the NCSU Realm Kit for Red Hat Linux or the NCSUScyld Beowulf system.
Beowulf User Management System
Documentation for the PHP and Python scripts that maintain and control users on the NCSUScyld Beowulf. This is the software that is being used to control bigdog.pams.ncsu.edu as well as other Beowulfs.
Updating the Realm Linux Trees
This documentation describes the steps in adding packages and errata to the NCSU Realm Kit for Red Hat Linux. Hopefully, this well shed some light on how the Linux stuff works around campus.
The Realm Linux Users' and Administrators' Guide
The official users' and administrators' guide for the Realm Linux. It lives on the Linux web server but I wanted to point to it here too, and make the DocBook source available.
Setting Up an OpenAFS Server on Realm Linux
Unofficial documentation on how to set up a Linux OpenAFS fileserver at NC State University using the NCSU Realm Kit for Red Hat Linux.
Installing a Rocks Cluster at NC State
This is a short document about installing a Beowulf cluster using NPACI Rocks. It describes how to realm-ify the cluster and some tips and tricks.
Beginning Computing on Rocks Clusters at NC State
This short document is a Getting Started guide ment to supplement the Rocks documentation. It is aimed at users of Rocks clusters and covers simple batch jobs, Sun Grid Engine, and MPI. Also pointers to the Sun Grid Engine are provided.
