What This Guide Covers

This book covers, as mentioned above, the installation, management, and use of Realm Linux. It will provide some details on how the Kit is put together, how the various parts of the Kit interact with one another and with the rest of the campus computing environment, and will also provide a first level of technical assistance should problems arise with the Kit.

This guide is not an unabridged reference for the inner workings of the Kit at the level of source code, nor is it an introduction to the Linux or Open Source environments. If you wish to examine the gory details of how the Kit works, the source code is available to you. If you need an introduction to Linux or Open Source, there are many references available in both the Student Stores and in local area bookstores. If you need a general introduction to the Unity/EOS environment here at NC State, there are again references available to you at the Student Stores, or you can enroll in E115, which is a course covering the basics of the computing environment taught by the College of Engineering.
