There is a significant amount of software available locally on Realm Linux workstations, including compilers, information management tools, text processors, Evolution for email, and OpenOffice for office productivity. Some of this software is also available on Solaris Kit workstations, but the AFS lockers may contain a less recent version than is available locally.

Any locally available software can be accessed and used without first having to add the locker environment.
